La Paz Travel Guide

La Paz is the highest capital city in the world, and is home to the world's highest golf course. The air is so thin that a well-hit shot will travel several meters farther than at sea level. The sight from the air as one flies into La Paz is incredible.

About La Paz

La Paz covers an area of 181.5 sq. miles (470 square Km) and is estimated to have a population of 1.5 million people being the administrative capital of Bolivia, as well as the departmental capital of La Paz Department and the most populous city in Bolivia.

Hotels

Radisson Plaza HotelRadisson Plaza is the only hotel in all of Bolivia that is part of a North American hotel chain. You can expect all the amenities of an exclusive business hotel here, but compared to modern, sexy Hotel Europa , it feels more like a comfortable old shoe. So, if you’re simply looking for a familiar place to flop for the night, the Radisson is a perfect choice. The rooms are usually spacious enough for two double beds, a large dresser, and two chairs. They also have huge picture windows, but only some have views of the city or snow-covered Illimani; unfortunately, a few years ago, a high-rise went up right in front of the rooms with the best views.

The suites have fancy inlaid night tables, mahogany headboards, and a spacious sitting area. The presidential suite, with its three fashionably designed bedrooms, elegant living room, and formal dining room, is fit for, well, a president. The sleek Aransaya Restaurant, which has outstanding views, looks like it was airlifted here from New York City. This is also one of the only hotels in La Paz that offers a free airport shuttle. Be sure to ask for the “Super Saver” rates that sometimes shave almost 30% off the regular prices, or check the website for deals.
