La Paz Travel Guide

La Paz is the highest capital city in the world, and is home to the world's highest golf course. The air is so thin that a well-hit shot will travel several meters farther than at sea level. The sight from the air as one flies into La Paz is incredible.

About La Paz

La Paz covers an area of 181.5 sq. miles (470 square Km) and is estimated to have a population of 1.5 million people being the administrative capital of Bolivia, as well as the departmental capital of La Paz Department and the most populous city in Bolivia.

Dumbo

DumboLocated right in the middle of the Prado, Dumbo is one of the most popular places in La Paz for a light snack. The specialties here are ice cream and pastries. Some of my favorites are the Milk Shake Hawaii (pineapple, strawberries, strawberry ice cream, and milk) and the California (orange juice, vanilla ice cream, creme chantilly, and orange slices).

But Dumbo is also great for full meals: There’s a whole selection of sandwiches, and you can also sample Bolivian specialties here, such as lomito a la paila (filet served in a bowl of soup with potatoes and an egg). The restaurant is very cheerful, with colorful walls, waterfalls, fresh plants, and an enclosed patio in the back. From 8 to 10pm nightly, there is a live piano player and it seems half of La Paz (and their kids) is here.
